The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a shooting at an apartment complex in Fort Sanders that sent three victims to the hospital Tuesday night.
Officers responded to the shooting at the Highland Terrace apartment compex on the corner of 13th and Highland.
KPD spokesman Darrell DeBusk confirmed that three victims were shot and transported to UT Medical Center.
"Early indication is that the victims know each other," DeBusk said."All three should survive their injuries."
The first two victims – one male, one female – were both shot more than once, and the third victim was found near 21st and Highland, eight blocks from the crime scene.
DeBusk said campus was safe and indicated that the shooting did not appear to be a "random event."
UT students from the area gathered in clusters around the crime scene discussing what they heard.
"It sounded like fireworks," said Chandler Rasnake, a junior in business who was visiting a friend at the complex. "Then it got sporadic and started speeding up."
The Univeristy of Tennessee Police Department first issed a UT Alert at 8:25 p.m. describing the shooter as a "black male accompanied by three other black males, all wearing dark hooded sweatshirts."
Details describing any of the victims were not immediately relased by officers.
