Clarence Brown Theatre is holding auditions for Oklahoma! this weekend.
Those auditioning must be at least sixteen years of age, and must prepare a 1-1.5 minute light contemporary monologue and 16 bars of a song. Auditionees will also be taught a short dance combination and will be required to perform the dance in small groups as part of the audition.
Auditions will be held from 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday, 12 to 6 Sunday and 6 to 11 on Monday by appointment only.
All auditions will be held at the CBT main stage.
Sarah Patterson, CBT Marketing Director said that neither theatre majors nor UT students will be given preference during auditions.
"The best of those who audition will be chosen, regardless of their major or school," she said. "We will not only have students auditioning, but community members as well."
The show, which will be directed and choreographed by Casey Sams, runs from April 12 to 27.
Rehearsals will be held during spring and Easter breaks.
"Several different influences affect what shows we produce here at the CBT," she said. "We need to program shows that give our students a change to gain performance experience on the main stage. We also need to keep our audiences' preferences in mind. Oklahoma! does both - it gives our students experience on stage and it is always an audience favorite."
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1944, Oklahoma! is considered one of the first musical comedies with a plot.
Those interested in auditioning should call Betty Tipton at 974-6725.
