Student appreciation is rarely sweeter than when two of the hottest venues in town team up to offer students four killer bands, wicked cool light shows and admission to both venues for a single cover charge that can easily be scrounged up from the lost change between the cushions of the couch.
Dig deep. That appreciation flows freely tonight.
“Essentially, it’s two tickets for the price of one — admission to Blue Cats and to Barley’s for our respective concerts,” Lenore Kinder, director of operations for Blue Cats, said. “You pay $5 to purchase a ticket to Blue Cats and you can get into Barley’s for free or vice-versa.”
Headlining Blue Cats will be Garage DeLuxe, one of the newest and hottest bands unleashed on the Knoxville scene.
Joining them will be Rufus Grove, with its energetic mix of rock, funk and electronic influences, and Knoxville’s very own Red House. Atlanta-based Moonshine Still, which has been rocking venues across the country and named one of the Best Emerging Artists of 2002, will be playing two sets at Barley’s throughout the night.
“Stylistically, all four bands match together very well, but they’re not all four alike either,” Kinder said. “We’re also going to align the set times for the bands so hopefully none of them are playing at the same time. Essentially, you can bounce back and forth from Blue Cats and Barley’s and catch sets from all four bands.”
With Blue Cats and Barley’s markedly different scenes, students will get a good dose of both for the low cover. “You get two totally different vibes, two different atmospheres, two different types of shows for the price of one,” Kinder said. “I mean you can’t beat that.”
Cover is $5 for both venues and can be purchased at either Blue Cats or Barley’s. Doors open at 9 p.m. For more information contact Blue Cats at 544-4300 or Barley’s at 521-7464.
