William W. Adams, former chairman of the board of Armstrong World
Industries Inc., will give the University of Tennessee-Knoxville summer
graduation address.

The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at Thompson-Boling
Arena.

Adams began his career at Armstrong in 1956 after graduating from Iowa
State University with a degree in industrial administration. He became
manager of consumer products in advertising in 1962 and was promoted to
other positions before being named chairman and president in 1987. He is a
member of the Bell Atlantic Corporation board of directors, the
Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, the Pennsylvania Business
Roundtable, and Pennsylvanians for Effective Government. He is a former
director and former president of the Lancaster (Pa.) Symphony
Orchestra.
