All of those extra clothes you haven't worn in years can keep a family warm

this winter.

Gamma Sigma Sigma Service Sorority is conducting a clothing drive to

benefit Knoxville's Family Crisis Center this week. Donations of clothing,

linens and toiletries are needed to support the people who are sheltered

there.

The Family Crisis Center is a place of safety for women and children

who are victims of domestic violence. Often, these women leave their homes

with nothing, and are in great need when they arrive at the FCC.

Boxes for the donations of needed items are located in each residence

hall as well as the Women's Coordinating Council and the TeamVOLS office.

The FCC attempts to meet the physical and emotional needs of the women

and children there and also assists them with finding housing and staying

safe. The women receive assistance with job placement skills at the center,

while both women and children learn skills needed to help them overcome

the effects of domestic violence.

Domestic violence results in more serious injuries to women than mugging,

automobile accidents and rape combined, according to There's No Excuse,

from The Family Violence Prevention Fund.
