Knoxville Mayor Victor Ashe and city Recreation Director Sam Anderson announced

Friday that a portion of the city's Third Creek Greenway will be temporarily

closed for construction improvements. The portion of the greenway that runs

from UT student apartments on Sutherland Avenue to Concord Street will be

closed from June 8 until July 31.

The closure is necessary in order for the city to construct the Third

Creek Greenway connector from Painter Avenue across Concord Street to Tyson

Park. This new connection will make it easier and safer for trail users

to cross Concord Street. The city will be making drainage improvements and

trail repairs during this period. Trail repairs include paving this section

as part of the city's effort to make improvements to this older portion

of the Third Creek Greenway.

Knoxville Utility Board will also be working on a sanitary sewer rehabilitation

project in this area. Trail users can access the greenway at Tyson Park

east of Concord Street.
