The sisters of Delta Delta Delta are urging students to race for the children

of East Tennessee this weekend.

The sorority, along with the Greater Knoxville Triathlon Club will host

the 13th annual Trideltathon on Sunday, May 3, beginning at the Aquatic

Center at 8 a.m.

The mini-triathlon will consist of a three mile run, a six mile bike

and a 400 meter swim. There is a relay division, consisting of three team

members and individual competition. Entry forms will be available Saturday

from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the day of the event from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

The fee is $36 for teams and $25 for individuals. All participants will

receive a free T-shirt, and proceeds will go to the East Tennessee Children's

Hospital.

"It's for a wonderful cause, and it promotes unity within the campus,"

said Jeanie Poland, vice president of public relations for Delta, Delta,

Delta. "Lots of students do it on campus."

Poland, who serves as a volunteer at the hospital, sees the daily effects

fund-raising money has on the hospital, and knows every penny helps researchers

find a cure to deadly diseases.

"The kids there have terminal illnesses and doing something like

trideltathon helps these kids while we have fun," Poland said.

Last year, Delta Delta Delta raised over $3,500 and had nearly 300 participants

in the event.
