The Student Government Association is holding a Phone-a-Thon where students
can call their state legislators and talk with them about funding for
higher education in Tennessee.
The event, which will last from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, will take place in
the Student Organizations Suite in the University Center.
SGA will be distributing a toll-free phone number to students so they can
contact their representative in Nashville and voice their concerns about
funding for higher education.
Signs pointing in the direction of the Phone-a-Thon will be posted
downstairs in the UC in order to get students' attention, SGA President
Will Carver said.
The toll-free number being given out goes to a general state Senate
operator. A five-digit extension must be entered for the call to be routed
to a specific legislator's office. These extension numbers will be
available for students to use, Carver said.
Carver said it is important for students to come by and call, because "the
legislature's obviously hearing from the people who are opposed to tax
reform," and students must make their voices heard as constituents.
