A University of Tennessee student received the Urbino Summer Studies

Program Scholarship from the department of romance languages.

Whitney Bryan was awarded the $500 scholarship, which will go toward the

costs of the program. The scholarship is an award given to one student each

year to help with expenses of studying abroad.

Bryan will be studying in Italy for five weeks at the University of

Urbino, Italy and will be able to acquire six semester hours credit. She

will be able to take classes in Italian art, culture and language. There

are also classes offered to her in drawing and sketching.

In addition to the classes offered in either English or Italian, the

program allows for plenty of free time and traveling opportunities. While

in Italy she will have the opportunity to travel to Rome, Florence and the

Vatican.

Bryan will return home in August, when the program is over, to stay for

one month and will then go back to Italy to study there for one full year.

Dr. Sal DiMaria, with the department of romance languages and Asian

studies, said that Bryan is committed to the studies and has a high grade

point average, both of which contributed to why she was awarded the

scholarship. The students who participate in the program not only learn the

language but form strong relationships with other students, DiMaria

said.
