The Senior Gift Committee announced Thursday this year's "Volunteer of the

Year."

The award is presented to a rising senior who by his or dedication to and

participation in campus and community service has demonstrated exceptional

strength of character and stewardship to the University of Tennessee.

This year's recipient was Barbara Miller.

Mary Holtman, director of Alumni Affairs, said Miller was chosen as a "role

model" Volunteer.

"Barbara Miller was selected because her volunteerism epitomizes the

characteristics that this award seeks to honor," she said. "She has given

unselfishly of her time and talents to better the University community. She

goes 'over and beyond' but never seeks the spotlight. In true spirit of

volunteerism, Barbara represents the true 'unsung hero.'"
