The SGA bus traveling to Nashville was canceled for Thursday and Friday

after the Tennessee General Assembly announced it will call a recess

Thursday morning and reconvene Tuesday.

UT-Knoxville students visited with legislators outside the Senate chamber

Thursday morning beginning at 7:30 to try to get the most out of their

visit before returning to Knoxville.

"We've gotten positive feedback, but somehow we are going to have to get

students to make phone calls," said SGA President Will Carver. "We will try

to have a bus on Tuesday, but bus or no bus, we are going to be cranking up

phone calls big time."

Carver said legislative secretaries were calculating votes for and against

tax reform, and that he and his pro-tax reform group of students were

getting beaten 3 to 1.

"Higher education is going to get more money," Carver added.

He also praised students who gave up time in Knoxville to visit

legislators.

"They have done an incredible job," he said, "and have been well-recognized

and well-received."
