University of Tennessee Lady Vol divers Lizzy Flynt and Jaime Sanger have

qualified to compete in the 2000 U.S. National Indoor Diving Championships

next week. The duo earned the trip based on their performances at the U.S.

Diving Zone B Championships over the weekend.

Four current Lady Vols and two former Tennessee divers participated in the

Zone B meet in Bloomington, Ind., on April 7-9 at the Indiana University

pool.

Flynt, the junior from Auburn, Ala., placed fifth on the platform (420.63)

and eighth on the three-meter springboard (422.61) to qualify for the

national meet. Sanger, a freshman from Plymouth, Minn., will make the trip

home after placing third at the one-meter with a score of 468.90.

Sophomore Bethany Minser and freshman Stacy Binyon also competed in the

meet, but fell just short of advancing to the spring nationals. Minser

placed 16th on the three-meter and 19th on the one-meter, and Binyon

finished 13th on the platform and 36th on the three-meter.

Former Lady Vols Tracy Bonner and Kathy Pesek also competed at the Zone B

Championships and have earned trips to the U.S. Indoor Championships.

Both had already qualified for the meet, but Bonner solidified her position

with a second-place finish on the three-meter in Indiana (465.72), and

Pesek claimed the top spot on the platform with a Indiana University record

score of 465.33.

The four divers will depart on Friday for the U.S. Indoor Championships,

running April 17-22 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center in

Minneapolis, Minn.

The top divers on each board will earn spots on the 2000 U.S. National

Team, and this meet will serve as preparation for the U.S. Olympic Team

Trials in June.
