After more than 20 years at the university, Dean of the College of Business

Warren Neel will replace John Ferguson as State Finance Commissioner.

According to UT President Wade Gilley, Neel has not announced his official

resignation but most likely will leave the university in June to become the

new commissioner in Nashville.

The position became open when John Ferguson announced his retirement in

early 1999. However, Ferguson stayed an extra year to help with the state's

budget problems and the tax reform.

The commissioner is one of the governor's cabinet members and his chief

financial advisor.
