UT Medical Center's pediatrics residency program will be retained after

the Memphis and Knoxville Faculty senates passed legislation asking the

administration to reconsider the repercussions of closing the

program.

After the Graduate School of Medicine announced in February that the

program would be closed by June, the senates filed complaints for improper

termination procedure of a university program.

Last week, a letter to Pediatrics Department Chair Eddie S. Moore from Dean

of the Graduate School of Medicine Michael Caudle said the program will be

retained indefinitely.

According to a memo from President Wade Gilley issued Friday, there will be

no terminations of tenured faculty if the program is disbanded at any point

in the future, students in the program will be provided for and the

procedure for eliminating non-degree programs will be reviewed and

clarified.
