Caldwell said the motorist saw water running over the road, which was flowing from a clogged sink inside the bar. Police believe the sink was clogged by Materna.
Caldwell said Materna was taken into custody Sunday on drunken driving charges. After
lengthy questioning, Materna was then charged with murder Monday.
Sutton's son, Ronnie, said he was told by investigators that the victims had been shot. Sutton speculated that robbery was the motive in the slayings, saying the bar had been burglarized se
veral times in recent months.
Authorities refused to talk about a motive.
Materna is being held on a $3 million bond. A preliminary hearing is set for June 26 in Cocke County General Sessions Court.
