State Sen. Robert Rochelle, D-Lebanon, is scheduled to participate today in an open forum at 2:30 p.m. in the University Center Shiloh Room.
The forum, sponsored by the Faculty Senate, the Student Government Association, the Graduate Student Association and the Progressive Student Alliance, will give the University of Tennessee community the opportunity to talk with Rochelle about state fundin
g for higher education.
The open conversation is before the Faculty Senate meeting, which is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., and comes on the heels of the Faculty Senate and the SGA passing resolutions seeking adequate funding for higher education.
None of the resolutions take a stance on what kind of tax reform is needed to do this, but all of them demand state lawmakers do whatever it takes to Tennessee's tax structure to ensure better funding.
Rochelle supports implementing a state income tax.
Everyone who is interested is invited to attend the forum.
