MURFREESBORO (AP) - A Warren County father sent his son to steal three packages of cold tablets used to manufacture illegal methamphetamine, police allege.
Jeffery Glen Earls, 43, of McMinnville, Tenn., was charged with DUI, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Murfreesboro police reported.
Employees at a Fred's store called police after they caught the 15-year-old boy shoplifting cold tablets. The boy told officer Dave Norton his father had sent him to steal the merchandise.
Norton said he found Earls driving in the parking lot, his eyes bloodshot and his speech slurred.
Brake cleaning fluid, aluminum foil, cold medicine and other ingredients used to make the stimulant methamphetamine were found in Earls' truck, police said.
Earls was booked in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is set for Sept. 9.
