KNOXVILLE (AP) - The University of Tennessee is holding a carpet sale.
The $40,000 crimson carpet ordered by former University of Tennessee President John Shumaker but never installed in his office will be available for inspection by potential buyers Wednesday and Thursday.
The university hopes to sell about 950 square yards of unused carpet. It's stored on the UT Knoxville campus and may be viewed between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. both days. There will be no other inspection times.
Bill Keanaaina, warehousing manager for the university, said the minimum bid is $40,000.
Shumaker bought the carpet in April to replace the orange carpet in his office on the top floor of the Andy Holt Tower. Installation of the carpet would have cost another $13,000.
All bids for the carpet must be received in the UT Business Services Department by 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 24.
