HIGHLAND, Utah (AP) - Two brothers who went scuba diving in an irrigation canal were pulled out dead Thursday.
The brothers, ages 21 and 23, were discovered in a 100-foot deep concrete tube at the bottom of the canal after apparently being trapped overnight.
Rescuers partially drained the canal and rappelled into the tube to search for the two, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.
The 8-foot-wide by 1,200-foot-long pipe at the bottom of the canal acts as a conductor to move water along, Cannon said.
The brothers, who were not immediately identified, informed their parents of the trip about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Family members were at the rescue scene Thursday.
