ATHENS, Tenn. (AP) - The father of a 2-year-old McMinn County boy who died in a house fire has been charged in the case.
Keith Anthony Roberts, 25, was freed on a $25,000 bond Saturday after he was charged with felony child neglect and criminally negligent homicide in the Friday morning fire that killed his son. The boy's name has not been released.
A Sheriff's Department statement said the residence was "fully involved" when volunteer firefighters arrived.
Bob Pollard, assistant director for bomb and arson in the state fire marshal's office, declined to comment Friday about who was at the house with the boy when the fire started.
Pollard said that although the "fire was accidental" an investigation report was being turned over to the district attorney. The cause of the fire was not released.
Pollard said an autopsy showed the child died from smoke inhalation.
