ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - The University of Georgia fraternity members involved in the killing, skinning and eating of a raccoon were ordered to do community service as part of their punishment - but one organization doesn't want their help.
The Athens Area Humane Society didn't want the students working alone with animals, said executive director Lisa Klein.
"We're not comfortable because there has been an incident where one of the gentlemen committed animal cruelty and the other two undertook an act of violence with the animal," she said.
Erik Zimmerman has been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty charges for shooting and killing the raccoon. A fellow Phi Kappa Psi fraternity brother skinned it, and another ate some of it.
