GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A robbery defendant was captured at his Greene County home about 14 hours after fleeing a hospital where he had been taken for chest pains.
Talmadge Guy Cody, 48, escaped about 1:30 a.m. Sunday while being treated at Laughlin Memorial Hospital. He overpowered two guards after getting up to go to the restroom.
Cody fled the hospital in shackles and carrying one of the officer's handguns.
Dozens of local officers, FBI agents and U.S. marshals were involved in a search that led to Cody's home. Cody surrendered around 3:30 p.m. without a fight.
Cody and his wife are a charged with robbing a Greene County Bank branch in Greeneville and a video store in February. Both were indicted in federal court.
