For the UT women's soccer club, the path to the national club championship
begins this weekend in Lenoir City. That is where the club will host the
Southern Women's Soccer Association tournament.

The team has already qualified for the nationals Nov. 19-20 in Austin,
Texas and looks to improve on its 7-1-2 record this weekend. Other teams in
the tournament are Tennessee Tech, UT-Chattanooga, Virginia Tech and Penn
State.

"We're the defending (SWSA tournament) champs and have beat all the teams
except Penn State," said Teal Mowery, senior in therapeutic
recreation.

Mowery said that Penn State will probably be the strongest team that UT
will play in the tournament.

"We beat Virginia Tech 5-0 and Penn State beat them 5-1," Mowery said.

The club will be able to fly to Texas after receiving some money from the
UT Sports Club Office and sponsors. Team members also helped raise
funds.

"We had bake sales and sold T-shirts," Mowery said.

The tournament will be held in Lenoir City's Industrial Park. Mowery said
that the best way to get to the tournament is to take Interstate 75 to
Lenoir City, turn right onto Highway 11, then left onto C Street. When the
road splits, stay right and the soccer fields will be on the left.
