The Lady Vol cross country team fell in its season opener on Friday to
Georgia Tech, 24-31, at the Lakeshore Cross Country Course. The race was
Georgia Tech's second of the season.

Former Lady Vol standout Jasmin Jones, running for Adidas, won the 4K race
in 14:54. UT sophomore Michelle Reasor was the first collegiate runner,
finishing in 15:03.

"I thought Michelle ran a very smart race for her first outing of the
year," cross country coach Ann Bertucci said. "At the two-mile mark,
Sullivan from Georgia Tech had about a five second lead, but Michelle was
able to use her strength to overtake her in the end."

Mary Sullivan, Laura Morrow, and Beth Mallory finished second, third and
fourth, respectively, among collegiate runners for Georgia Tech before UT's
Jennifer Brewer crossed the line in 15:37 for fifth.

Rounding out the Lady Vols' scoring efforts were senior Amanda Gillam,
seventh in 16:12; freshman Maureen Ferris, eighth in 16:16; and freshman
Amy Reeves, 10th in 16:28.

"Jeni and Amanda had solid performances, and I was pleased to see Maureen
and Amy round out our top five in their collegiate debut," Bertucci
said.

"While I'm disappointed we didn't come away with a victory, the women put
forth a good effort for the first meet of the season."
