The Tennessee cross country team picked up its second win of the season by
overwhelming Georgia Tech Friday, 20-41. The Volunteers were impressive in
the home opener, placing eight runners in the top ten.
Vol Stewart Ellington recorded one of the fastest times ever at the
Lakeshore Hospital four-mile course, crossing the line in 20 minutes, 35
seconds. Tony Cosey, Matt Shuler and Chris Brown also shone for UT,
finishing third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
"Obviously, I was extremely pleased to win the meet," said Tennessee coach
Doug Brown. "We have about twelve guys that can run extremely well right
now, and this could be a very dangerous team if they keep their heads on
Georgia Tech, which spoiled the Vols' home debut last year, was led by
second-place finisher Kevin Graham (20:54). George Darden, Tech's other Top
10 finisher, finished sixth at 21:13.
Tennessee will be home again next Saturday, Sept. 17, to battle Indiana,
Miami (Ohio) and West Virginia.
