Tennessee lost another assistant football coach on Tuesday, as head coach
Phil Fulmer announced that new linebackers' coach Andy McCollum had
decided to return to Baylor, accepting the position as assistant head coach
and defensive coordinator. McCollum had previously been Baylor's
linebackers coach, before being hired by Tennessee in March. McCollum, 34,
is a graduate of Austin Peay University. Fulmer said McCollum had a desire
to be coordinator and that Baylor had offered him "considerably more
money." Fulmer said that he would begin a search for a replacement
The University of Tennessee-Martin is changing its mascot from the
Pacer to the Skyhawk, school officials announced on Tuesday. The school
cited the desire for a distinct image that people could associate with UTM.
The name change takes affect at the end of the athletic year in May.
The seventh annual Big Orange Caravan sets sail for a 12-stop tour,
beginning on May 1 in Jackson. The Caravan will traverse the state making
stops in Memphis (May 2), Clarksville (May 8), Nashville (May 9), Franklin
(May 10), Shelbyville (May 11), Maryville (May 15), Pigeon Forge (May 16),
Chattanooga (May 22), Cookeville (May 23), as well as two out-of-state
locations in Charlotte, N.C. (May 25) and Atlanta, Ga. (July 25).
