Tennessee running back Jamal Lewis says gaining 2,000 yards next season

is a realistic goal.

"I think anything is possible," he said.

Lewis gained 1,364 yards last season to lead all freshman rushers nationally.

But that figure is skewed because he carried the ball just 15 times during

his first three games.

"It's going to take me working hard in the offseason, being disciplined,

not getting the big head and staying humble," he said. "I've just

got to go out there and play my heart out.

"Hopefully, I can reach it. But the most important thing is going

Ellis recovering from car wreck

Tennessee defensive end Shaun Ellis is recovering from injuries suffered

in a traffic accident last weekend.

Ellis, the projected starter and left defensive end, suffered serious

hip injuries when his car flipped Sunday on Interstate 40 near Dandridge,

Tenn. He also needed more than 100 stitches in his face and mouth.

Ellis, of Anderson, S.C., will be on crutches for five to six weeks after

his release from a hospital in the next few days.

Vols baseball game canceled

Wednesday's baseball game in Knoxville between the North Carolina-Asheville

Bulldogs and the No. 12 Tennessee Volunteers (16-6, 3-3 SEC) was canceled

due to rain.

The Vols host Kentucky (7-11, 2-4 SEC) this weekend at Lindsey Nelson

Stadium for three games beginning tonight at 7. Both games on Saturday and

The UT men's tennis team travels to Columbia, S.C., to face the No. 28

Golfers to play in Alabama

The UT men's golf team continues its spring schedule Friday-Sunday at

the Alabama Spring Invitational. The tournament will be held at par 72,

6,773-yard Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery, Ala.
