The ninth-ranked Florida Gator volleyball team(15-2, 6-0 SEC) swept

Tennessee (11-4, 2-2) 15-0, 15-7, 15-7 Sunday afternoon at the Stephen

O'Connell Center in Gainesville.

Florida had a near flawless performance in game one, stifling the Tennessee

offense and hitting .533 percent to the Lady Vols' .185. The Lady Vols held

tight early on, but could not stop an 8-0 run, which put the Gators up

13-0. Jenny Manz served up three aces in the game.

Though Florida appeared to be out of sync in game two, it didn't allow UT

to take advantage of the situation. The Gators only registered a .150

hitting percentage, but the Lady Vols' percentage dropped to .77. Jen

Sanchez matched Manz's earlier serving effort with three aces of her

own.

UT forced five side outs and scored one point while holding off match point

in game three. However, it was not enough.

Tennessee's next match will be tonight against East Tennessee State at 7:00

at the Stokely Athletics Center.

Podbury on roll at All-American

Tennessee's Paul Podbury won three straight matches over the weekend to

stay alive in the prequalifying bracket of the ITA All-American Tennis

Championships in Austin, Texas.

Podbury, a sophomore from Melbourne, Australia, received a bye in the first

round. In the fourth round on Sunday, Podbury defeated Xavier Luscan of

UCLA, 7-6 (4), 6-3. Yesterday, Podbury faced Damu Bobb of UNLV in the

prequalifying round of 16. Results were not available at press time.

The tournament is the toughest hardcourt event of the fall. Other Vols will

be competing in the qualifying and main draws.
