The Vols spent two hours Wednesday working on game plans for Saturday's

showdown against SEC rival, Florida. The Vols are ranked No. 6 in both

polls heading into the contest. Florida is ranked No. 2 in both the AP and

ESPN/USA Today polls.

"Florida is a very good-looking and talented defensive football team," said

UT head coach Phillip Fulmer. "They are really special on defense. All of

the hype that I think you hear about these folks is very true."

Sean McDonough, Terry Donahue and Mike Mayock will be handling the

broadcast duties for CBS' nationwide telecast at approximately 8 p.m.

Vols knocked out of record books

Tennessee no longer holds the record for largest on-campus attendance

for a college football game.

The Vols' record of 107,608, set Sept. 21, 1996 against Florida at Neyland

Stadium, was eclipsed when Michigan packed in an incredible 111,012 for

last Saturday's game against Syracuse.

Michigan lost, 38-28.

Cross Country hosts home meet

Fresh off a victory at the Western Carolina Invitational, the Tennessee

men's cross country squad will host the UT Invitational this Friday at

Lambert Acres Golf Club in Maryville.

Six teams will be traveling to participate in the competition, including

SEC foes LSU and Florida. Also scheduled to compete are Ohio State, Wake

Forest, Indiana and UNC-Asheville.

The men's 8K race is slated to begin at 9:15 a.m.

The Lady Vols, who also won at WCU, will host the women's 5K race at 8:30

a.m. Competing in the ladies' portion will be Indiana, Ohio State, LSU,

South Carolina and North Carolina-Asheville.

Standout freshman Sharon Dickie paced the Lady Vols at WCU, finishing

second in a field of 113 runners. Doug Ellington won the men's race as the

Vols finished 1-2-3.

The meet will serve as a preview for the SEC Championships, to be held on

Oct. 31 at Lambert Acres.

Baseball tryouts coming soon

Walk-on tryouts for Tennessee baseball will be Monday, Sept. 21 at 5:30

p.m. Tryouts will be held at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Come by the baseball

office in Room 272 Stokely Athletics Center to fill out a walk-on

questionnaire.

Volleyball team plays exhibition

The Lady Vol volleyball team (5-2) will host MCSA-Russia tonight at 7

p.m. at Stokely. Tennessee recently went 2-1 at the Houston (Texas)

Tournament.

Their next regular season home game will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. against

UNC-Asheville.
