The Lady Volunteer soccer team, 2-3 overall, will conclude its five-match

road swing today with a 4 p.m. contest against North Carolina-Asheville.

The Bulldogs, a member of the Big South Conference, are a perfect 4-0 after

wins over Appalachian State (1-0, OT), Mars Hill (7-0), Tennessee Tech

(2-0) and Howard (4-1).

Since beginning the season on Sept. 1 with a 5-1 conquest of Chattanooga,

head coach Charlie MacCabe's Tennessee squad has visited opponents in

Oregon, Florida and South Carolina. The team will finally return to the

friendly confines of the Tennessee Soccer Complex with a home tilt versus

Xavier (1-3-1) this Sunday at 2 p.m.

Sophomore Laura Lauter, recently selected as the Lady Vol Athlete of the

Week, leads the team in scoring with nine points on four goals and an

assist. She is coming off a hat trick at South Carolina in which she

tallied the game-winning goal in overtime.

After registering six points on a pair of goals an assists during

Tennessee's first two contests, junior Shayna Teutsch aims to regain her

offensive touch.

Freshman Allison Campbell leads the Lady Vols with 20 shots on goal and

also paces the team with three assists.

The goalkeeping duties have been split between junior Sarah Shivley (1-3,

20 saves, 3.57 GAA) and freshman Ellen Dean (1-0, 13, 2.05).

The duo of senior Mackenzie Miller (25 shots, three goals, one assist) and

sophomore Joanna Stocking (three goals) leads the UNC-Asheville attack. The

Bulldogs have outshot their opponents by a whopping 93-15 margin and have

allowed just one goal through four matches.

This will be the second meeting on the pitch between the Lady Vols and

UNC-Asheville. During UT's initial campaign in 1996, the Lady Vols notched

a 2-1 victory in Knoxville, with Bethany Himel and Melissa Covington

scoring for the winners.
