Adam Carey and Mark Parsons represented the University of Tennessee tennis team well this weekend. They competed in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, advancing in both singles and doubles play. Parsons was able to reach the round of 16 before losing to Julien Reynah of South Alabama, who eventually finished runner-up in the tournament.
Carey was defeated in the second round of the main draw before making his way to the quarterfinals of the consolation draw. He lost to Christian Thall of South Alabama 6-2, 6-3. Thall went on to win the consolation draw.
In doubles action, Parsons and Carey, the 10th-ranked doubles team in the nation, made it to the semifinals of the main draw. They defeated Thall and Kosta Zinchanra of South Alabama in the quarterfinals Sunday. Parsons and Carey's tournament run ended in an 8-5 loss to Jesse Smatt and Ajay Ramaswami of LSU, who were the eventual tournament runners-up.
Next for the Vol netters are the All American Championships at Stone Mountain, Ga., from Oct. 6 to Oct. 15. A small contingent of the Vol squad must first qualify before tournament play begins Oct. 10. Qualification for this tournament will be held from Friday, Oct. 6 until Sunday, Oct. 8.
