Four home meets, including a five-way Southeastern Conference dual meet, highlight the 2000-01 University of Tennessee women's swimming and diving schedule as announced by head coach Dan Colella.
Once again we are looking forward to a challenging schedule that puts us up against some of the elite teams in the SEC and out of the conference, Colella said. We look forward to another strong year from the team with six seniors, a solid crop of returning swimmers and divers and a good group of incoming freshmen.
The Lady Vols open the 2000-01 campaign with the annual Orange and White meet that pits current UT swimmers against alumni. The regular season opens on Oct. 27 with the first-ever SEC Eastern Division Dual Meet Extravaganza that features Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Kentucky. The meet counts as four separate dual meets for the Lady Vols and will feature exciting race action including races with 20 simultaneous lanes.
After the dual meet, the Lady Vols will take on Kentucky in Lexington followed by the beginning of a stint of invitational appearances. The divers will go to the Minnesota Diving Invitational and the Alabama Invitational while the swimmers will travel to New Jersey for the Princeton Invitational.
For a winter training break, the swimmers will travel to Aruba to compete in the Aruba Invitational on Dec. 19, while the divers will attend the Hawaii Invitational on Dec. 18. After the beginning of the New Year, the teams will reunite to take on Arizona State in Knoxville on Jan. 5. The divers will also be participating at the Georgia Diving Invitational from Jan. 5-7.
The men's swimming and diving team schedule is much like the women's as they start off the season with the Orange and White meet on Oct. 20. The Vols will also be competing in the SEC Eastern Division Dual Meet Extravaganza on Oct. 27.
The Vols then travel to face Kentucky before returning home to face Virginia. Like the Lady Vols, the men will travel to Princeton for the Princeton Invitational and Hawaii for the Hawaii Diving Invitational.
Tennessee will start the 2001 season hosting Arizona State on Jan. 5, followed by Texas on Jan. 6.
Both the women and the men will compete in three other matches before preparing for the SEC Championships on Feb. 21-24.
