The Tennessee lacrosse club continued its winning ways to open this season as it posted wins over No. 19 Indiana and No. 25 Georgia last weekend. The wins push the team's record to 6-0. Through rain and wind, the Vols had to hold off a surging Hoosier team in the second half with another strong defensive showing. The Vols used a strong defensive performance to down UGA as they shut out the Bulldogs in the second half on their way to a convincing 12-2 victory.
The Vols open up a big homestand on Friday as they host No. 9 Texas A&M at 8 p.m. at the UT Intramural Fields. Tennessee will be looking for revenge against the Aggies after TAMU took down the Vols in the national tournament last spring in St. Louis.
Tennessee continues the Knoxville swing on Sunday with a matchup against SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference rival and No. 12 Auburn. That game is set for a 1 p.m. start at the Intramural Fields.
Last weekend, UT racquetball club members Adam Sikora, Steve Sharp, Greg Anderson, Robert Miller, Michael Larrabee, Jacob Nearing, John Morton and Dorothy Sharp participated in the Valentine Shootout at CourtSouth.
John Morton made the championship in both men's B and C divisions.
Patrick Denton currently leads the men's club ladder, while Heather Lee leads the women's.
March 1 is the sign up deadline for the club's doubles tournament.
The Tennessee rugby club will meet up with the No. 1-ranked team in the South and the eighth-ranked club in the country when it faces the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the MetroCenter Business Park in Nashville.
The matchup comes after a solid start by the team. Tennessee downed Murray State on Feb. 3 and The Citadel on Feb. 10 to open the spring slate. Last weekend's match with Vanderbilt was scrapped after 6 inches of water inundated Knoxville's Tyson Park.
