The Lady Vol softball team's offensive woes continued during final day action of the abbreviated Louisville Slugger Tournament on Sunday afternoon, as UT was blanked by Florida Atlantic, 3-0.
Jim Beitia's club managed just three singles off opposing pitcher Nicole Myers in being shutout for the third straight time this weekend. UT has now dropped its last 11 road contests since a victory over Tennessee Tech last April 26.
Myers kept the Lady Vols guessing all afternoon, as the junior right-hander would record 11 strikeouts and issue only one walk in knotting her season mark at 1-1. Her only legitimate threat during the game came in the bottom of the fifth, when UT had runners on second and third with only one out.
UT sophomore Nicole Murray wound up walking eight Owls and surrendering three hits in 4.2 innings of work to take the loss, while freshman reliever Leigh Ann Ellis yielded a hit and faced five batters during her 1.1 frames.
Shortstop Annie Fletcher paced the Tennessee attack with a 2-for-3 effort, while junior Maria Torres laced a pinch-hit single into left field.
