After leading Tennessee to the title at the shortened Georgia Southern Eagle Classic this past weekend, three Lady Vol softball players were chosen to the All-Tourney squad released on Monday morning. Jim Beitia's club managed two wins on Friday before heavy rains blanketed the area of Statesboro, Ga., and halted further action.
Senior second baseman Melissa Radley led Tennessee with a .571 (4-for-7) average this weekend, including a pair of RBI singles against the University of Pittsburgh. Senior center fielder Janette Koshell ripped a couple of doubles on Friday, with a bases-clearing two-bagger the difference in UT' 5-2 win over the Panthers. The Granite Bay, Calif., native boasted a .500 (3-for-6, team-high four RBIs, .833 slugging percentage) clip for UT.
Sophomore hurler Stephanie Humphrey fanned a career-high 11 in notching a 6-2 decision over Florida A&M. The right-hander paces the pitching staff in victories with five and has struck out 56 batters in 62.2 innings. Humphrey was also named All-Tourney at the Triangle Classic, where Tennessee claimed the crown with a 5-1 mark.
At 10-13 overall, the Lady Vols will kick off their 30-game SEC schedule next weekend with a three-game series in Oxford against the University of Mississippi. UT will battle the Lady Rebels in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday and the teams will meet once on Sunday at 3 p.m. CT.
