Tennessee had three players advance to the semifinal
round of their respective brackets Sunday at the Southern Intercollegiate being held in Athens, Ga.
Tennessee Sophomore Simon Rea continued his run with a 6-3, 6-2 win over seventh-seeded Carl Wermee of South Carolina. For Rea, it will be his second consecutive tournament semifinal after advancing as far at last week's Kingsport Invitational.
Vol freshmen Mark Dietrich and Michael Maddox also advanced to the semifinal round in divisions three and four respectively. Dietrich won his quarterfinal match over Vanderbilt's Lewis Smith 6-2, 6-4, while Maddox downed Tennessee Tech's Jorge Ascencio 6-
Sophomore Wade Orr was victorious in two matches Sunday in the division two consolation bracket. Orr first defeated Trevor Short of MTSU 6-4, 6-1, before taking out South Carolina's Rodrigo Pacheco 6-2, 7-5.
"Our guys just keep getting the job done this weekend," Tennessee head coach Michael Fancutt said. "Simon, Mark and Michael are all right where we hoped they would be. Hopefully they can just continue working hard and the rewards will follow."
The Vols will be back in action Monday for the semifinal and final rounds of the tournament.
