The fourth-ranked Tennessee swimming and diving team ended up in second place after the final day of the prestigious Dallas Morning News Classic. The Volunteers totaled 292 points, putting them behind California who took top honors with 328 points. Southern Methodist (279) was third, with Florida, (275) Texas A&M (261) and Auburn (227) rounding out the field.
Tennessee head coach John Trembley was disappointed in his squads performance, saying, "We did not perform well, it is never nice to have the lead and then lose."
On the second day of competition the Volunteers won only one event, leaving them chasing California who took five out of the nine events. Andrew Bree was the only Vol winner, taking top honors in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:00.06.
"We will now get back to work in preparation for Georgia," Trembley said.
Next up for the Volunteers is a dual meet with Georgia, Jan. 26, in Athens, Ga.
