The Lady Vol rowing team gets a rare chance to shine at home this weekend when they host the Head of the Tennessee Saturday.
Highlighting UT's three entrants in the Championship 8+ race, which is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m., is the group led by coxswain Lizzie Brown.
Last weekend, the squad teamed up to finish among the top 10 collegiate eights in the premier event at the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston, defeating three squads that earned invites to the 2003 NCAA Championships.
The top event will also feature the young and talented Lady Vol boat powered by coxswain Erin Artz. In Boston, the shell finished 20 seconds ahead of the next fastest collegiate crew en route to a second-place finish.
Tennessee will also vie for the open pair (2:35 p.m.), the Championship 4+ (10:55 a.m.) and the novice 8+ (9:25 a.m.).
All races will begin at the UT Faculty Club and finish at Cherokee Park. Interested spectators may view the race at any of the parks or shorelines along Cherokee Boulevard.
