INJURY UPDATE: So much for Tennessee being over that horrendous injury bug that plagued them throughout the 2002 season.
After practice Monday night, coach Phillip Fulmer announced freshman receiver Robert Meachem would be out for up to 12 weeks after the Oklahoma native underwent arthroscopic surgery earlier in the day to repair torn meniscus in his right knee.
It's possible Meachem could be back by the final few games of the regular season, but he'll almost certainly take a redshirt instead.
Fulmer said last week Meachem was as far along as any freshmen receiver he'd ever coached.
The speedy, 6-foot-3 wideout, a consensus top three receiver coming out of high school, was drawing rave reviews in preseason practice and was expected to be a factor early and often in UT's crucial competition at wide receiver.
