The Tennessee men's golf team closes out the regular season April 9-10 at the Courtyard by Marriot Intercollegiate in Cary, N.C. The tournament is set to be played at MacGregor Downs Country Club.
The Vols made their first appearance in this tournament last season, finishing fifth with a 284-285-286--855. David Skinns led the Vols after firing a 69-72-67--208, finishing second.
Skinns, a junior, once again leads Tennessee at the No. 1 position. The two-time all-SEC performer leads the team in stroke average with a 72.50. He also leads the team with three top 10 finishes and has nine rounds of par or better. The top-10 finishes occurred at the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions (ninth), Suntrust Gator Invitational (second) and Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship (ninth-tie).
Junior John Scott Rattan will be competing in the second position. Rattan has a scoring average of 72.89 and leads the team with 11 rounds of par or better.
Ross McGowan, also a junior, anchors the third spot. McGowan enters the event with a scoring average of 73.44, and like Skinns, has nine rounds of par or better. He has one top-10 finish for the year, coming at the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions, where he finished eighth.
Freshman Ross Cox makes his first appearance since the Suntrust Gator Invitational in the No. 4 position. Cox has a scoring average of 74.00, with his highest finish, a tie for 17th at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
Freshman Tino Weiss is set to compete at the No. 5 position.
Weiss' highest finish came during the Vols' last tournament, the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational, where he finished tied for 54th. He has a scoring average of 76.11.
The tournament features four teams from the Golfweek Top 25, including No. 11 Minnesota, No. 19 Wake Forest, No. 23 Duke and No. 25 Kansas. Other teams competing are East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, North Carolina, North Carolina State, North Florida, Southern Methodist, Tulsa, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
The tournament is a 54-hole format, with 36 holes being played on Friday and 18 on Saturday.
