University of Tennessee golfer Brandon Skeen qualified for the 2004 U.S. Amateur Championship Monday at Willow Creek Golf Club in Knoxville.
The Jefferson City, Tenn., native - who will enter his senior season with the Volunteers this fall - shot a 7-under-par 135 (68-67) to advance from the field of 77. Bill Roach, Jr., a senior at Tulane and Knoxville native, finished one shot back of Skeen and also advanced.
Skeen one-putted the final five holes of the 36-hole marathon.
The U.S. Amateur will be played Aug. 16-22 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., the site of four previous U.S. Open Championships.
