In her collegiate debut Thursday, Lady Vol freshman Monica Abbott authored a no-hitter in an 8-0 shutout of Saint Mary's.
The left-hander was even better in her third start Saturday, throwing a perfect game in a 2-0 blanking of host Hawaii at the Paradise Classic. Abbott (4-0) set down all 21 batters she faced and tied her personal high with 13 strikeouts.
With the victory, Tennessee (4-1) secured the number two seed for Sunday's playoff rounds, where it will have a rematch with the Rainbow Warriors (2-2).
Abbott's second no-hitter has already matched Stephanie Humphrey for the most in school history, while the perfect game was just the second for the Lady Vols since the program's inception in 1996.
Over her four appearances in the circle, Abbott has notched four wins, struck out 44 batters in 23 innings and compiled a 1.52 earned run average. The southpaw fanned the first five Hawaii hitters she faced and 11 of the first 15.
