University of Tennessee long jumper Tianna Madison is in Sacramento, Calif., this week competing in the U.S. Olympic Trials.
But while she prepared over the weekend to compete against the nation's best, the Southeastern Conference's track coaches voted her the SEC Freshman Female Outdoor Field Event Athlete of the Year.
After only one season, Madison is already a two-time All-American (indoors and outdoors).
The Elyria, Ohio, native currently owns the third longest jump among the competing U.S. women (21 feet, 8 inches). That mark, which gave Madison the USATF Junior title in June and qualified her for the trials, is the second best outdoor leap in Lady Vols history.
Madison competed in the prelims last night and plans to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team by finishing in the top three at Saturday's final.
The 2004 Olympic Games track & field competition will be held in Athens, Greece, Aug. 20-29.
