The No. 20 Lady Tigers dropped two of three this weekend against No. 11 Georgia (41-9, 22-2 SEC).
Auburn (39-13, 3-7) recorded 11 hits in Sunday’s game, winning 8-4 to snap Georgia’s nine-game winning streak. Eight of the nine starters for Auburn recorded hits.
“This was a big win for us,” Auburn coach Tina Deese said. “Georgia is a balanced team, and we refocused after two losses Saturday and played a complete game today. Holly threw well and our offense really responded.
Auburn lost 5-4 and 4-3 in Saturday’s doubleheader.
LSU will travel to Auburn this weekend for Senior Day and a pivotal series in the SEC.
South Carolina
South Carolina lost all three games this weekend for the first time to Alabama.
With recent struggles, the Gamecocks have not won a game since April 3 against Kentucky.
Megan Cornett leads the team with 21 hits and a batting average of .420.
In Saturday’s game, the Tide hit two three-run home runs in an 11-0 shutout. The Gamecocks stranded 12 base runners in a 9-2 loss on Sunday.
Tigers pitcher Emily Turner picked up two complete-game wins over the weekend against Ole Miss.
“That was the game plan, and we executed it to perfection,” LSU coach Yvette Girouard said of the two victories. “We were hoping that Emily would show up like she did today. We had solid defense behind her and timely hitting.
“I would have liked to have a little more, but I thought Emily was in complete control all day today. She just did a fabulous job.”
All-American Leslie Klein led the LSU bats, hitting 4-for-6 in the doubleheader with a double, three RBIs and one run scored.
LSU (26-15, 9-12) travels to Auburn, Ala., this weekend.
The Gators picked up two wins this weekend against Tennessee and pitching sensation Monica Abbott.
In Saturday’s games, Mandy Schuerman belted a two-run homerun in the fourth inning to give the Gators a 2-1 they would never relinquish.
In the second game of the double-header, two Tennessee errors in the eight inning cost the Vols the game and Abbott a win.
“That’s always a big accomplishment because she’s so good and so talented,” UF coach Karen Johns said about UT pitcher Abbott. “She gave us everything she had.”
Florida’s Stacey Stevens recorded both victories for the Gators (34-12, 13-5) on Saturday, improving her record to 19-6.
Mississippi State visits the Gators this weekend.
