Tennessee track standout Nicole Cook was named the SEC Women’s Track Runner of the Week for the second time in three weeks, the Southeastern Conference office announced Thursday.
Cook, who picked up Lady Vol Athlete of the Week acclaim as well, ran a career-best time of 53.04 seconds in the 400-meter event at the Penn State Invitational last weekend, which easily met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard. She also currently holds the fastest time in the nation this season in the 800m.
This week’s SEC and Lady Vol honors were Cook’s second for each award this season. Her effort at the Jan. 19 Virginia Tech Invitational garnered awards for that week.
Cook and her teammates are idle this weekend, but the top-ranked Lady Vols are back in action next week at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
