BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Tennessee men's golf team surged past LSU Tuesday morning to take the lead with an overall score of 570 after two rounds at the Shoal Creek Invitational.
Sophomore Jonathan Mount shot a 69 in the second round to go 5-under-par with a 139 for the tournament. Mount is currently in third place.
Chris Paisley has the next highest score for the Vols. Paisley shot a 73 in the second round and is now 1-under-par through two rounds, which places him in a tie for ninth place in the individual standings. Phillip Pettitt shot a 71 in the second round, an improvement of two strokes over his first-round score, and is now at even par in the tournament.
Lloyd Campbell and Ben Spickard are tied for 30th place overall in the tournament, each shooting a 3-over-par 147. Campbell shot an even-par 72 in the second round.
LSU, the leader after round one, is now in second place three shots behind UT. Another SEC rival, Florida, stands in third, one stroke behind LSU and four behind Tennessee. Tournament host Alabama-Birmingham is in fourth after shooting a second-round-low 281.
