AUBURN, Ala. — The Tennessee Aquatics team ended the Speedo Championship Series Southern Sectional in Auburn, Ala., Monday by posting more national qualifying times and appearances in the finals sessions.
Christine Magnuson placed second in the 100-meter freestyle preliminaries with a national qualifying time of 57.26. Upcoming Lady Vols Morgan Farrell and Tricia Weaner placed 19th (58.69) and 29th (59.71), respectively. Also in the prelims, Brittany Nauta was 52nd in 1:00.47, Brooke Boncher was 56th in 1:00.53, Katie Gehring was 78th in 1:00.92 and Ashley Quinn was 83rd in 1:01.08.
Tiffany Clay placed sixth in preliminaries of the 200-meter breaststroke with a national qualifying time of 2:37.38. Jamie Saffer was 36th in the prelims and 29th in the finals of the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:46.75.
Weaner and 2006 UT graduate Jacque Fessel placed fourth and eighth in the preliminaries of the 200-meter backstroke, but did not compete in the finals. Weaner touched the wall in 2:19.85, a national qualifying time, while Fessel registered a 2:21.88. Maria Jugan was 30th in the prelims of the 200-meter back and 31st in the finals (2:30.08).
Fessel, Clay, Magnuson and Nauta produced a national qualifying time of 4:18.97 in the 400-meter medley relay for second place. Jugan, Saffer, Lange and Quinn were 17th in the relay by touching the wall in 4:37.49.
