The University of Tennessee announced plans for a home-and-home series with former women’s basketball rival UConn on the Gridiron.
The first of two games will be played at Rentschler Field in East Hartford in 2015 and the Huskies will make the trek to Knoxville the following season. Athletics director Mike Hamilton was pleased with the addition of Connecticut to the football schedule.
“We look forward to the addition of the University of Connecticut to our future football schedule,” Hamilton said. “This adds another quality opponent from a BCS conference, gives our fans a great travel destination and also puts us back in the northeast — continuing our tradition of playing in different regions of the country.”
The Huskies join Big 12 powers Oklahoma and Nebraska on the 2015 schedule that should be among the toughest in the nation. Earlier this year, the Vols announced plans for a home-and-home with Ohio State beginning in 2018 in Knoxville, followed by a trip to Columbus in 2019.
