The Vols’ depth at wide receiver took a blow last Friday when senior wideout Austin Rogers suffered a knee injury during preseason workouts. He will miss the entire 2009 playing season.
Rogers tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during team workouts last week, head athletic trainer Jason McVeigh confirmed on Tuesday. The senior will require surgery within the next two weeks.
The 6-2 receiver hailing from David Lipscomb High School in Nashville appeared in every game during the 2008 season, starting four. He has been an Academic All-SEC performer throughout his career at UT, pulling in 76 receptions for 891 yards.
The Vols begin regular fall practice on Aug. 4.
