Tennessee’s 2009 football class has added its second post-National Signing Day signature with the announcement that Oklahoma tailback David Oku inked with the Vols on Thursday. Oku comes to Knoxville rated the No. 1 overall all-purpose back by Rivals.com.
The Midwest City, Okla., native rushed for 5,802 yards and 72 touchdowns in his high school career. During his senior season, Oku led Carl Albert High School to the Class 5A state championship game, carrying for 1,905 yards and 23 scores while earning All-State honors for the second year in a row. Oku gained 1,628 yards and scored 20 touchdowns as a junior.
UT previously signed Louisiana defensive back Janzen Jackson on the day after signing day, and now has 21 members of head coach Lane Kiffin’s initial class. The Vols begin spring practice Tuesday.
